General Dynamics has recently conducted a supplier survey to determine the capability and capacity of Australian industry to provide a Family of Vehicles that will satisfy the Australian Defence Force requirement for a Protected Mobility Vehicle (Light).
This is in response to a Commonwealth Land 121 Phase 4, Request for Proposal (RFP) issued on 12 June 2009 to determine the feasibility of a Manufactured and Supported in Australia (MSIA) acquisition versus a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) acquisition through the US Joint Light tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program.
General Dynamics Land Systems – Australia and MOWAG have agreed to prepare a proposal to deliver variants for a trial in late 2010, based on the combat proven Eagle 4x4 PMV(L). Current versions of the Eagle are in service with Danish and German forces.
General Dynamics will present a cost effective, Australian produced product which is more attractive to Defence than a JLTV FMS solution, because a locally manufactured and supported Eagle represents reduced technical and schedule risk. This claim is based on supply of a proven MOWAG product with significant potential for growth, guaranteed Australian based project management by GDLS-A and an optimized role for established Australian suppliers many of whom enjoy the on going benefits of past GD programs such as the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle project.
